What to look for in a good mud mask

When looking at the list of ingredients in any product, it can be very overwhelming. Trying to figure out what to look for requires you to sit there and look at the bottle with Google handy to tell you what is what. Here is a list to help you determine what makes your mud mask a good one or not.

  1. Bentonite Clay

One of the best ingredients to look for in a mud mask is bentonite clay.  It pulls out the toxins to help clarify the skin and help heal the skin and reduces inflammation. So what is bentonite clay, and where does it come from? Bentonite clay comes from volcanic ashes and is jam-packed with minerals, including calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron and potassium. But not to worry, you won't need to visit a volcano to get your hands on bentonite clay.

  1. Agaricus Bisporus (Mushroom) Stem Extract

Don't be confused; we are not cooking! Mushroom stem extract is fantastic for your skin, as it increases your cellular turn over. It also makes your skin firmer so you can continue to tell everyone you are still 25, even if that was ten years ago. Lastly, it also helps your skins hydration levels.  Who knew a mushroom stem had so much skin power?

  1. Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil

This would be a gold star on a mud mask ingredient list if it were ever to have one. It is an antiseptic, meaning it is a disinfectant for the skin, helping kill the bacteria that cause breakouts in the skin.  It balances and softens the skin and helps moisturize as well.

One of the masks that has it all and more is our PhytoMud Pore Minimizing Mask. It helps maintain the balance of the skin's moisture as well as helps pull out all the bacteria and toxins in the skin. It helps firm the skin keeping it younger looking and doesn't dry it out like other mud masks tend to. It can also be used as a spot treatment, and if kept on while in the tub, it keeps the mask ingredients active longer! A must have product!
