How to Adapt Your Skin Care Routine For The Seasons

Just as the seasons change so should your skincare routines, what we use in the summer, is not what we should be using in the winter. So adapting your skincare routine for the seasons is crucial. For example, the colour of your foundation is much more different in the summer than the shade of your winter foundation. You might end up looking like you are wearing a mask if you are wearing your summer foundation in winter.  We move from beautiful summer days to enjoying the snow, from the indoors, and the drastic weather change wreaks havoc on our skin.

IF YOUR SKIN IS OILY/COMBINATION

For those with oily/ combination skin, your skin still needs just as much love in the winter as in the summer. Pure Intense Cleanser will still continue to cleanse your skin while giving it the hydration it needs without the oils, which means no change in your cleanser! (whoo!) Serums, are either completely forgotten about or they are all the craze. People often forget that serums are just as important in the summer as they are in the winter. For a summer serum, we suggest Glyco-15 Corrective Serum, this serum contains Centaurea Cyanus (Cornflower) Flower Extract, which is an anti-inflammatory. It works to tone, heal, and it is only used during the night time and can make you more skin sensitive. Make sure you are using Cara Daily Solar Guard as your sun protection! For the Winter you will want to use a serum that hydrates as well as still helps combat those breakouts consider Vita A Retinol Serum, it is also a nighttime serum with Retinyl Palmitate (vitamin A) Retinol. It helps moisturize dry skin without the creamy feel to it, as well helps repair, and reduces excess skin oils. For daytime hyaluronic acid is a great addition, it is so lightweight and helps protect the skins moisture barrier. When it comes to moisturizers and oily or combination skin, people have been known to apply it sparingly or not at all! The skin NEEDS a moisturizer, to know what one to pick is the real trick! Cara Pure Citrus Day Cream is one that helps in MANY areas, while it continues to be good for antibacterial, it is light enough to keep on during those hot summer days. But come winter you will need a nighttime cream to ensure your skin is getting the proper hydration levels it needs. Cell MX Moisture Cream is an excellent addition for the winter, apply it as a night time cream. It will give your skin the hydration it needs for those cold winter days, giving your skin the hydration love it needs!

IF YOUR SKIN IS DRY/SENSITIVE

For those with dry skin, your cleanser needs to be gentle enough to get rid of the daily build up as well as maintaining the integrity of the already fragile skin. Cara's Pur Mild Cleansing Gel is great for this, as it gently cleanses the skin and helps to keep the skin hydration levels without feeling like it is stipping your skin of all the layers. For the winter people tend to look for something more creamy, or at least hydrating as the harsh weather conditions seem to strip our skin of any hydration we so desperately try to put in our skin.  Luckily, if you already have Cara's Pure Mile Cleanser, it will still help work wonders for your skin all year round, protecting the integrity of your skin.

The purpose of the toner does not change with the seasons! It continues to do the same job of keeping your pH balanced and keeping that hydration locked in your skin.  This is the same across the board for all skin types, our Pure Essence should be a year-round staple for everyone! Serum's for the winter we suggest our HydraCalm Soothing Serum, it will help calm the redness down in your skin as well as help decrease inflammatory stress (aka eczema, psoriasis etc.) that the skin gets in those colder months.  Adding this to your daily skin care is crucial for those colder months. Moisturize with HydraCell Day and Night cream as it can be used in the day an night in the winter without any repercussions. It contains hyaluronic acid, the key ingredient for those of you who have profoundly dehydrated skin; it goes on so light yet is jam-packed with nutrients to nourish the skin back to health.

Let's not forget exfoliation for all skin types! Important in all seasons! Pumpkin Heat Exfoliation Mask is a great mask. It can either sit on the face or be worked into the skin, making it an excellent fit for all skin types and the smell will have you wishing for pumpkin spice everything! People also tend to forget to wear sunscreen in the winter. Even though we seem to see less of the sun in the winter we still need to take into consideration that there are still UV rays, and therefore still need to apply sunscreen on daily, Cara Daily Solar Guard or Illuminating Moisture Tint will do the trick!
