How to Treat Dark Under Eye Circles

Dark under eye circles can be painfully obvious and sometimes hard to conceal.  Not to worry, they are common and easy to take care of!

First is to understand why you may have dark under eye circles. Some reasons may be heredity, muscle tone, aging, poor circulation, anemia, fatigue, allergies, eczema, scratching or rubbing, sun exposure, pigment irregularities and contact dermatitis. We suggest contacting your Health Care provider to determine the cause then you can learn which method may be most effective for you.

  • Applying a cold compress beneath your eyes - This can help with the swelling of the discoloured & dilated blood vessels.
  • Get plenty of rest - We could all use more rest. Try sleeping not so flat in your bed as this can help with the pooling of fluids under your eyes.
  • Allergy medicine - This will help with your body’s/skin histamine response. Please consult your physician as to which you should take or if you should take any.
  • Protect your eyes from the sun - This can be done with a simple pair of sunglasses, using a sunhat or by using cosmetic sunscreens in the under eye area.
  • Permanent Makeup - If it is a heredity issue, the permanent makeup can mask the under eye circles by doing a colour correction match to the rest of the facial skin tone/colour.
  • Chemical Peels/Microcurrent - Using glycolic acid, a natural derivative for sugar came, which eliminates the dead skin cells as well as the microcurrent, which is used after applications to push the glycolic deeper. As well as the microcurrent also helps with circulation. Circulation helps to move the blood that becomes stuck under the eye area, moving it towards the lymphatic system — making sure to consult & have treatments by a trained Professional Esthetician.
  • Chemical Peels - Chemical Peels can also be used on their own to achieve a lightening & circulatory result.
  • Eye creams, serums, and gels. Consult with your Professional Esthetician about these items to have them personalized to your needs.
  • Laser -  With this treatment, you can stimulate collagen production & reduce pigment to under eye area.
  • Makeup -  A good concealer can help to mask dark circles under eyes. Consult a makeup professional to help you with choosing you the best colour match for your coverage needs.
